In the present work it is realized a comparison of the provided resources and the services that are offered in the dependent libraries of the University of Valencia (UV), th…
Outer boundary conditions for Einstein's field equations in harmonic coordinates
2007
We analyze Einstein's vacuum field equations in generalized harmonic coordinates on a compact spatial domain with boundaries. We specify a class of boundary conditions which is constraint-preserving and sufficiently general to include recent proposals for reducing the amount of spurious reflections of gravitational radiation. In particular, our class comprises the boundary conditions recently proposed by Kreiss and Winicour, a geometric modification thereof, the freezing-Psi0 boundary condition and the hierarchy of absorbing boundary conditions introduced by Buchman and Sarbach. Using the recent technique developed by Kreiss and Winicour based on an appropriate reduction to a pseudo-differe…

TRANSFORMING LIBRARIES AS A PROFIT-MAKING ORGANIZATION TO IMPROVE SERVICE PERFORMANCE
2022
Libraries are non-profit service-oriented organizations engaged in satisfying the patrons' needs by providing them with whatever they seek from the library, i.e., Books, Journals, Magazines, CDs/DVDs, and Online Resources. However, the libraries must face hardships regarding funds which create difficulties in maintaining the libraries and providing better library services. Its high time libraries should become self-dependent rather than depending upon the funds provided by the parental organization. The funds that the parental organization allocates are minimal and do not cover every area pertaining to the library. Purpose: The purpose of the paper is to conceptualize the transformation of …
Integrating Natural Language Processing (NLP) with existing library framework in enhancing level of users' satisfaction
2022
Introduction: Libraries are the storehouse of information instilling knowledge into human minds. The easy availability of information from online sources has barred users from visiting the library physically. To keep the users intact within the physical confines of a library, there is a need for libraries to evolve through the implementation of state-of-the-art techniques. Purpose– The purpose of this study is to develop a theoretical framework and conceptual background for applying natural language processing (NLP) in library and information science (LIS) to improve library services and related research. This study also aims to identify the LIS areas where NLP can use and implement …
Students' Information Literacy Development as a Guarantee of Qualitative Studies
2015
Publication devoted to information literacy development updates. Information literacy competencies as the basis for the success of a human life takes on a special significance in higher education teaching. Success of this process is driven by university cooperation partners: teachers, librarians and administrations work. Teachers implement information literacy development methods courses, librarians responsible for information resources in institution make up their own training system, but the administration - facilitates the implementation of information literacy and financial support. Competencies based on governmental, professional or institutional defined standards, which can provide an…
Radio Observations of the Hubble Deep Field South Region IV: Optical Properties of the Faint Radio Population
2008
The Australia Telescope Hubble Deep Field-South (ATHDFS) survey of the Hubble Deep Field South reaches sensitivities of ~10 miceoJyJy at 1.4, 2.5, 5.2 and 8.7 GHz, making the ATHDFS one of the deepest surveys ever performed with the Australia Telescope Compact Array. Here we present the optical identifications of the ATHDFS radio sources using data from the literature. We find that ~66% of the radio sources have optical counterparts to I = 23.5 mag. Deep HST imaging of the area identifies a further 12% of radio sources. We present new spectroscopic observations for 98 of the radio sources, and supplement these spectroscopic redshifts with photometric ones calculated from 5-band optical imag…
Bibliotēka kā universitātes informācijas un mācību telpa
2014
Latvijas Universitātes un Ukrainas sadraudzības augstskolu pētnieku un bibliotēku darba profesionāļu rakstu kopīgais krājums atspoguļo bibliotēku un informācijas nozares zinātniskās un lietišķās pētniecības darba rezultātus. Rakstu autori analizē bibliotēku pakalpojumu mērķtiecīgo attīstību mūsdienu informācijas vidē un augstskolu mācību infrastruktūrā. --- The collection of papers of the researchers and library professionals of the University of Latvia and Ukrainian universities reflects on scientific and applied research activities. The authors of the articles describe the purposeful development of library services in the modern-day information world and academic infrastructure.
Subcytocidal attack by staphylococcal alpha-toxin activates NF-kappaB and induces interleukin-8 production.
2001
ABSTRACTFormation of transmembrane pores by staphylococcal alpha-toxin can provoke a spectrum of events depending on target cell species and toxin dose, and in certain cases, repair of the lesions has been observed. Here, we report that transcriptional processes are activated as a response of cells to low toxin doses. Exposure of monocytic (THP-1) or epithelial (ECV304) cells to 40 to 160 ng/ml alpha-toxin provoked a drop in cellular ATP level that was followed by secretion of substantial amounts of interleukin-8 (IL-8). Cells transfected with constructs comprising the proximal IL-8 promoter fused to luciferase or to green fluorescent protein cDNA exhibited enhanced reporter gene expression…
Sympathetic neurons can produce and respond to interleukin 6
1998
Neuronal expression of cytokines is an area of active investigation in the contexts of development, disease, and normal neural function. Although cultured rat sympathetic neurons respond very weakly to exogenous interleukin 6 (IL-6), we find that addition of soluble IL-6 receptor (sIL-6R) and IL-6 enhances neuronal survival in the absence of nerve growth factor. Neutralizing monoclonal antibodies against IL-6 block these effects. Addition of IL-6 and sIL-6R also induces a subset of neuropeptide and transmitter synthetic enzyme mRNAs identical to that demonstrated for leukemia inhibitory factor, ciliary neurotrophic factor, and oncostatin M. Both of these effects are duplicated by addition o…
